Matariki week!

Image result for matarikiThis week is the week for celebrating Matariki. What's Matariki people ask, well it is a maori name for star cluster and is a maori new year.Matariki is a star cluster is celebrated on the end of may and the beginning of June. Matariki was also used to help navigators find new land that is also why they celebrate Matariki.

This event was also celebrated to remember people that has passed and celebrating new life. Matariki was a time for singing and dancing to celebrate people who passed. The things they use to celebrate Matariki is Hot air balloons, Fireworks and heaps more to help mark the new year of maori people.

Did you know there are 7 star which is known as the 7 sisters. There names are Tupu-nuku, Tupu rangi, Waiti, Waita, Waipuna-a-rangi, Ururangi and last of all Matariki.

Matariki is also a time to start planting for spring. Matariki is also a time to learn and share stories, and thinking of the future of Matariki.
