T.C students go to Silicon Valley!

Today we had 2 special speakers that came to talk to us all about their trip to the United States. The two speakers names were Saia and Gabe. Both of them attended Tamaki College, which is just down the road from our school. They both got picked to go on a special trip to the United States. They went to a place in America called Silicon Valley.

On their trip to Silicon Valley they got to go to famous and high business like Google. Saia and Gabe also went with other children who got picked to go on the trip. The places they visited were Google,Facebook,Stanford University,Khan academy,Xero,Microsoft,IDEO,Instagram,Twitter,Alcatraz prison,Golden gate bridge and heaps more. Saia favourite places he went to were Facebook and Stanford University. Gabe’s favourite places were khan Academy and Alcatraz prison.

They were telling us about the food proportion is America. Did you know our large combo in New Zealand is America’s small combo? I hope one day I will have that opportunity to go on that trip.

Our Muscles!

This writing will explain and tell you all about our muscles. Did you know everyone has 640 muscles in our body? Each of the muscles in our body belongs to three different group’s. Our muscles are put in the three groups fora reason. They are called Smooth muscles,Cardiac muscles and Skeletal muscles. Every muscle in our body has a very special job that keeps us alive and working.


Smooth Muscles:We all have smooth muscles in our body or also known as involuntary. Our smooth muscles work even if we don't even try. Smooth muscles are found in our stomach, intestines and other hollow organs like the palter. Our smooth muscles wall helps things moving through the organs, like food.


Cardiac Muscles:Our Cardiac muscles is also like smooth muscles they work without trying. Cardic is our heart muscle. Did you know the heart muscles is also known as the myocardium? Its contracts and relaxes to help pump the blood though the rest of your body.


Skeletal Muscles:Skeletal muscles also known as Voluntary. Skeletal muscles are different to Smooth and Cardiac muscles. With Skeletal muscles you decide when you move your muscles.They only move unless you want them too. Muscles move by contracting and relax. But they can’t do it alone. They work in pairs called flexor and extensor. The flexor contracts your arm to bend your arm and extensor relax your arm to be straight.

More facts: Your deltoids muscles helps your shoulder move. Our pectorals muscles are placed on the upper chest. The quadriceps are in our thugs.

The Olympics!

What is the Olympics? The Olympics is a sporting event of different sports where the top athletes come to compete in the sports that they are good at. The Olympics games are only occur once every four years and is held by different countries around the world. Its is a summer and winter sport event around the world. There is a variety of different sports in the Olympic games. This year the Olympics is held in Rio,Janeiro,which is based in brazil 2016! There is only two days until the official Olympics kick off! There are 11,239 athletes competing in the Olympics this year. 311 events in the Olympics and 207 counties in the Olympics.

According to the history of the Olympics it has been going on for 12 centuries. The Ancient Olympics only consisted one race which was the stade race. Then later on they added Boxing,wrestling,chariot racing,long jump,javelin and discus throwing.

There was a time when the Olympics got banned because it used to be about Zeus. You had to praise Zeus and the other greek god in order to compete into the Olympics. Back then married woman wasn't allowed to go into the Olympics. Only men and single lady were. There was a mother who son was playing in the Olympics,but because she was married she wasn't allowed to watch him. She was so desperate to watch her son she discated as a man just to watch her son.

The early olympic games were celebrated as a religious festival from 776B.C, until 393A.D. When the Olympics were held at Greece, the host Country. They won most of the medals. They won 47 medals at the first Olympic summer games 1896. The five rings of the Olympic signs represents the five major regions of the world. Did you know no country in the southern hemisphere has never hosted a winter games. The very first winter Olympic games were held in Chamonix, France 1896.
